The Importance of Grandparents and Grandparents Day
by Charlotte
Grandparents are important. They host holidays, spoil us, and pass on family heirlooms. My grandma gave me a bracelet of hers for my tenth birthday. It has tiny dried flowers pressed into diamond shaped beads. They send us cards for random reasons, bake with us, and leave the disciplining to our parents. My grandparents always attend all of my recitals, plays, and concerts.
Christ the King School has Grandparents Day so students can share their lives with their grandparents the way grandparents share their lives with us. It is a half-day where they come to the school to attend mass, eat breakfast, play games, go to the book fair, and watch a student concert. I interviewed my grandparents to see what they liked most about the day:
ME: What is your favorite thing about Grandparents’ Day?
G+G: Seeing you in a school setting and seeing your work and meeting your teachers.
ME: Why?
G+G: Because I can see your accomplishments and growth.
ME: What is your favorite memory of Grandparents’ Day?
G+G: Playing bingo together and the concert.
ME: What impression do you get you get of the students at CKS?
G+G: Attentive, well behaved, and polite.
Grandparents care about us and love us unconditionally. Bring your grandparents to CKS Grandparents’ Day on Friday, November 20 from 8:30 – 12:00. They will be happy to meet teachers and classmates and see your work.
